Installation Instructions

⚠ A hose that attaches to a spray wand can burst if it is installed on the same water line as the dishwasher.
Unpacking the Dishwasher Use at least two people to move and install the dishwasher to prevent back and other types of injuries. Carefully remove the packaging materials. Remove any shipping tape and glue from your dishwasher before using. Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable fluids, or abrasive cleaners to remove tape or glue. These products can damage the surface of your dishwasher. Check to make sure the parts necessary for installation are included. If any parts are missing, please contact our customer service team. Put the dishwasher on a level and flat surface that is able to support the entire weight of the dishwasher fully loaded Whynter’s .

Installation Requirements The dishwasher is designed for a countertop installation. Please follow the instructions for clearance, water and electrical requirements.

Whynter’s Clearance Requirements The minimum height clearance required to install your dishwasher on a counter top surface with overhead cupboards is 45cm (17.7″).

Water Requirements Make sure the water supply/ faucet connection is within reach of the inlet and drain hose assembly (i.e., 58 cm / 22.8″). If your sink has a spray wand, it is recommended that the hose be disconnected and the hole plugged Whynter’s .

Water Temperature For best results, the water temperature must be at least 55ºC (130ºF). To prevent damage to the dishwasher, the temperature of the incoming water supply should not exceed 65ºC (149ºF).

Whynter CDW-6831WES Countertop Portable Dishwasher 6 place setting LED EnergyStar Instruction Manual - Warning Risk of Electric shock iconDo not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord.

Electrical Requirements Read all safety precautions listed at the beginning of this manual. It is recommended that you use receptacles that cannot be turned off by a switch or pull chain.

Electrical Connection Ensure the voltage and frequency of the power source being used corresponds to those on the rating plate. Only insert the plug into an electrical socket which is earthed properly. If the only available electrical socket the appliance can be connected to is not compatible with the the prong plug, replace the socket, rather than using an adapter or the like as they could cause overheating and safety issues.

Grounding Instructions This appliance must be earthed. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, earthing will reduce the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for the electric current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-earthing conductor and an earthing plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is installed and earthed in accordance with all local standards and requirements.

⚠ DANGER DO NOT LET CHILDREN DISCONNECT THE DISHWASHER; CLOSE SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT AROUND APPLIANCES.

NOTE: Hard water conditions will adversely affect the washing performance of your dishwasher. Hard water conditions will also contribute to ‘lime’ (white film substance) deposits and/or ‘scaling’ on the stainless steel surface of the dishwasher tub and heater element, located in the sump underneath the removable filter screen. To assist in minimizing these conditions, it is recommended to periodically operate/ rinse the inside of the dishwasher while empty using 1 cup of white vinegar at least once a week.

Water Supply Inlet Connection
If the water pipes are new or have not been used for an extended period of time, let the water run to make sure that the water is clear and free of impurities. If this precaution is not taken, there is a risk that the water inlet can get blocked and damage the dish washer.
Note: If the supplied hose does not fit your water supply, please contact your local plumbing supply center where adapters are available for purchase or a plumber for assistance.

Whynter CDW-6831WES Countertop Portable Dishwasher 6 place setting LED EnergyStar Instruction Manual - Water Supply Inlet Connection

WARNING! Please close the faucet after using.

  1. Connect the water supply inlet hose to a threaded 3/4 (inch) connector and make sure that it is fastened tightly in place. Check for leaks (use Teflon tape to eliminate leaking if necessary or for extra protection).
  2. Connect the drain hose to the drain port connection on the back of the dishwasher cabinet. Do not overtighten (to avoid damage to the threads).
  3. Connect the inlet hose connection to the inlet port on the back of the dishwasher cabinet. Do not overtighten (to avoid damage to the threads).
  4. Connect the circular connection of the inlet hose connection onto the shorter (top) male connection.
  5. Slowly open the hot water line and check for any sign of water leaks at all hose connections. If leaks are located, immediately close the water supply and repair the hose connections.

IMPORTANT: Once you open the water supply line, (even if it is closed immediately thereafter), the inlet hose will be pressurized.
To relieve water pressure from inside the inlet hose, make sure the water line (faucet) is closed.

DANGER: DO NOT LET CHILDREN DISCONNECT THE DISHWASHER; CLOSE SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT AROUND APPLIANCES.

Note: If not in use, the the dishwasher may be disconnected from the faucet. Disconnect and store your dishwasher

  • Turn off and unplug the dishwasher.
  • Turn off water supply faucet. Remove water supply inlet connection from faucet.
  • Drain excess water from the water supply inlet connection. If the sink is 34″ or higher from the floor, the excess water in the hoses cannot be drained directly into the sink. It will be necessary to drain excess water from hoses into a bowl or suitable container that is held.
  • Set aside the water supply inlet connection and hoses. Store the dishwasher
  • Latch the dishwasher door closed.
  • Place the dishwasher into its preferred storage location.

CHECK BEFORE FIRST USE
The following things should be checked before starting the dishwasher.

  1. The dishwasher is level.
  2. There is no leakage at the connections.
  3. The power is switched on.
  4. The inlet and drain hoses are not knotted to prevent restrictions.
  5. All packing materials and manual should be removed from the dishwasher.

Using the dishwasher

A. Function of Detergent
Proper Use of Detergent Detergents with chemical ingredients are necessary to remove dirt, crush dirt and transport it out of the dishwasher. Use only detergent specifically made for use in dishwashers. Keep your detergent fresh and dry. Do not put powder detergent into the dispenser until you are ready to wash dishes.
The amount of detergent to use depends on whether your water is hard or soft. With hard water, you need extra detergent to alleviate the deposits that are left by the excessive minerals. Less detergent is needed for soft water.
To identify whether your water is hard or soft, contact your water department. A water softener is recommended for water that contains twelve or more grains. Without it, lime can build up in the water valve, which could stick while open and cause flooding. Too much detergent with soft water can cause a permanent cloudiness of glassware, called etching.

NOTE: Grains – in terms of water hardness measurement, refer to the unit of weight that is equivalent to 1/7000th of a pound.

For heavily soiled loads, use the HEAVY WASH Cycle, fill one or both of the interior cups, depending on the hardness of your water, and also fill the open cup on the dispenser lid. Use the information in the table below as a guideline to determine the amount of automatic dishwasher detergent to place in the dispenser:

Whynter CDW-6831WES Countertop Portable Dishwasher 6 place setting LED EnergyStar Instruction Manual - Proper Use of Detergent

Detergent Tablets
Detergent tablets of different brands dissolve at different speeds. For this reason some detergent tablets cannot dissolve and develop their full cleaning power during short programs. Therefore please use long programs when using detergent tablets, to ensure the complete removal of detergent residuals.

Detergent Dispenser
The detergent dispenser must be filled before the start of each washing cycle following the instructions provided in the Wash Cycle Table. Your countertop dishwasher uses less detergent and rinse aid than a conventional dishwasher. Generally, only one tablespoon of detergent is needed for a normal wash load. Also, more heavily soiled items need more detergent. Always add the detergent just before starting the dishwasher, otherwise it could get damp and will not dissolve properly.

Filling in Detergent

Whynter CDW-6831WES Countertop Portable Dishwasher 6 place setting LED EnergyStar Instruction Manual - Filling in Detergent

Note:

  • Push latch to open the detergent dispenser lid.
  • Add liquid detergent, powder detergent or detergent tablet.
  • Always add the detergent just before starting each wash cycle.
  • Only use branded detergent aids for dishwashers.

Using the dishwasher
Amount of Detergent to Use Fill the detergent dispenser with detergent. Close the lid and press until it locks in place.
The marking indicates the dosing levels, as illustrated on right.

  • A – dispenser can load 5g detergent (open cup)
  • B – dispenser can load 15g detergent
  • C – dispenser can load 25g detergent

Note: Please be aware that the level of soiling and the specific hardness of water differences are possible. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations on the detergent packaging. Whynter’s

DO NOT USE HANDWASHING DISH DETERGENT! Using a detergent that is not specifically designed for dishwashers will cause the dishwasher to fill with suds. During operation, these suds will spill out of the dishwasher which may cause overflow Whynter’s .

B. Fill the Rinse Aid Dispenser
Function of Rinse Aid
Rinse aids are designed for great drying action and to protect against spots and film build-up on your dishes, glasses, flatware, cookware, and plastic.

Rinse Aid Dispenser Whynter’s
The rinse aid is released during the final rinse to prevent water from forming droplets on your dishes. It also improves drying by allowing water to sheet off the dishes. Your dishwasher is designed to use liquid rinse aids. The rinse aid dispenser is located on the inside of the door next to the detergent dispenser.

When to Refill the Rinse Aid Dispenser
If there is no rinse aid warning light in the control panel, you can judge the amount of rinse aid by the color of the optical level indicator located next to the cap. When the rinse aid container is full, the whole indicator will be dark. As the rinse aid diminishes, the size of the dark dot decreases.

CAUTION
Only use branded rinse aids for dishwashers. Never fill the rinse aid dispenser with any other substances (e.g. Dishwasher cleaning agent, liquid detergent). This may damage the appliance Whynter’s .

NOTE: If water spots are not visible and you are satisfied with the drying results, using a rinse aid is optional.

Note: Clean up any rinse aid spilled during filling with an absorbent cloth to avoid excessive foaming during the next wash. Do not forget to replace the cap before you close dishwasher door.

Adjusting Rinse Aid
The amount of rinse aid released into the final wash can be adjusted. The rinse aid dispenser has four settings and the recommended setting is on “3” Whynter’s .

If the dishes still are not drying properly or are spotted, adjust the rinse aid lever to the next higher number on “4”.

NOTE:

  • Increase the dose if there are drops of water or lime spots on the dishes after washing. Reduce it if there are sticky whitish stains on your dishes or a bluish film on glassware or knife blades.
  • If water spots are not visible and you are satisfied with the drying results, using a rinse aid is optional Whynter’s .

C. Check the Water Temperature
The recommended entering water should be at least 120°F (49°C) and not more than 150°F (66°C) for effective cleaning. The water temperature can be checked using a meat thermometer.
Turn on the hot water faucet, place the thermometer in a glass and let the water run continuously into the glass until the temperature stops rising Whynter’s .

  • Remove any food remnants and clean the filters under running water.

Cleaning The Filter
To clean the coarse filter and the fine filter, use a cleaning brush. Reassemble the filter parts and reinsert the entire assembly in the dishwasher, positioning it in its seat and pressing downward.

Whynter’s Caring for the Dishwasher

  • The control panel can be cleaned by using a lightly dampened cloth and dry thoroughly.
  • The exterior can be cleaned using an appliance polish wax.
  • Never use sharp objects, scouring pads or harsh cleaners on any part of the dishwasher.

Whynter’s Cleaning The Door
To clean the edge around the door, use only a soft cloth dampened with warm water. To avoid penetration of water into the door lock and electrical components, do not use a spray cleaner of any kind.

WARNING!

  • Never use a spray cleaner to clean the door panel as it may damage
the door lock and electrical components.
  • Abrasive agents or some types of paper towels should not be used because of the risk of scratching or leaving spots on the stainless steel surface.

Protect Against Freezing
Please take frost protection measures on dishwasher in winter. After all washing cycles, please operate as follows:

  1. Unplug the dishwasher from the power source.
  2. Turn off the water supply and disconnect the water inlet pipe from the water valve.
  3. Drain water from the inlet pipe and water valve. (Use a pan to catch the water)
  4. Reconnect the water inlet pipe to the water valve.
  5. Remove the filter and use a sponge to absorb excess water.

Whynter’s Cleaning the Spray Arms
The spray arms can be easily removed for periodic cleaning of the nozzles, to prevent possible clogging. Wash them under running water and carefully replace them in their seats, checking that their rotary movement is in no way impeded. Grasp the middle of the spray arm, pull it upwards to remove it. Wash the arms under a jet of running water and return them carefully to their seat.
After reassembly, check that the spray arms turn freely. Otherwise, check if the sprays arms are installed correctly.

How to Keep Your Dishwasher in Shape

  • After Every Wash Whynter’s
After every wash, turn off the water supply to the appliance and leave the door slightly open so that moisture and odors are not trapped inside.
  • Remove the Plug Before cleaning or performing maintenance, always remove the plug from the socket.
  • No Solvents or Abrasive Cleaning To clean the exterior and rubber parts of the dishwasher, do not use solvents or abrasive cleaning products. Only use a cloth with warm soapy water. To remove spots or stains from the surface of the interior, use a cloth dampened with water with a little vinegar, or a cleaning product made specifically for dishwashers Whynter’s .
  • When it is not needed for a long time It is recommend that you run a wash cycle with the dishwasher empty and then remove the plug from the socket, turn off the water supply and leave the door of the appliance slightly open. This will help the door seal to last longer and prevent odors from forming within the appliance.
  • Moving the Appliance If the appliance must be moved, try to keep it in the vertical position. If absolutely necessary, it can be positioned on its back.
  • Door Seal One of the factors that cause odors to form in the dishwasher is food that remains trapped in the seal. Periodic cleaning with a damp sponge will prevent this from occurring Whynter’s .
